Chapter 4- Escape

Alyanna pulls her makeshift shield closer to her body as her opponent kept firing at her. She grunts as the impact of the bullets made the shield shake her arm painfully but tries to ignore it. The dark hair girl curses before grabbing her last grenade and tosses it.

“Everyone duck!” one of the men yell as everyone follows runs to cover. Alyanna didn’t stay behind to see who survive and runs off towards the forest. The small ruins of her old home town made her feel sadness before shaking her head knowing she shouldn’t let her emotions get the best of her. Alyanna forces herself to ignore the dead bodies of fallen friends and families, forcing herself to run faster.

“Alya! Over here!” a familiar voice call over and sees her friend, Charvi waving her over. The dark hair girl perks at the sight of the redhead and quickly rushes over before both took off to the forest.

Once they made it to the forest, both girls slowly started to slow down till they made it to a clearing. Alyanna groans softly and leans against a tree, letting her shield drop. Charvi quickly runs to her side and looks at her friend worriedly.

“What’s wrong?” she asks as she tries to examine her friend who kept shrugging off her advances. “I’m fine! Just my arm getting stiff from holding that shield constantly.”

“Then I should carry it for a bit,” Charvi suggested,” You’ve been carrying it non-stop since we’ve got it…”

“Cause I’m stronger and know how to maneuver with it...Besides didn’t we agree that you’re not the best with melee weapons?” Alya retorted with a raise brow. Charvi sticks her tongue out and flicks her nose. “If you won't let me hold it then let me see your damn arm!” Alyanna grumbles and holds her arm out to Charvi, staring out from the direction they came from. She could still see the smoke from over the treetops from their home. Alyanna frowns as she thought about her little brother before looking back at Charvi, realizing that she was ask something.

“I-I’m sorry?” Alyanna asks, tilting her head at her. Her girlfriend sighs and shakes her head,” I ask if your arm feels better. I made the wrapping a bit tighter to provide better support since you’ll be carrying the shield. Alya flexes her arm before stretching smiling as the pain wasn’t as strong as before. “Yeah it’s perfect...thanks love,” she hums, leaning back against the tree.

Charvi smiles at her and shifts to nuzzle against her. “Think it’ll be okay to rest here? What if those mercenaries tried to follow us?” she asks the taller girl. Charvi shifts to rest her head on her shoulder as they stare out at the smoke rising over the tree tops. “Just a short rest...I’ll take the first watch so you can rest for a bit…” she said with a small smile. Charvi frowns at her before nodding slowly to cuddle against her. Her hand moving on her belly, taking a deep breath to relax before a sudden thought came to her.

“Where would we go?” she suddenly asks, looking up at Alyanna. The older girl frowns and turns towards the opposite direction.

“I’ve heard of a village that is against violence...self-sufficient and very well guarded...Maybe they’ll take us there? “ she asks her and looks down at Charvi.

“No violence?” Charvi repeats before smiling as she kisses her cheek. “Do you know what’s its called?”

“I have no idea but hopefully we can find it soon…” she sighs and stretches slightly. “Now rest so we can get moving soon.” The redhead nodded and lays her head down again, letting her eyes flutter close as she takes a small nap.

It wasn’t long before Charvi was completely asleep, letting Alya get a chance to look her over. The redhead was covered in scratches, scars, and blood from their little scats they were in. Her hair was pull back in a loose ponytail, framing her heart shape face, making her look adorable. Alyanna runs her fingers through her hair and softly sings, wanting to keep her head clear from any dark thoughts.

She has no urge to let her mind return to the guilt and dark thoughts that are stirring around. The tightness in her stomach and chest almost making her feel sick, but she quickly pushes the sour taste back with a swing of her water. As she sets the water down, a sudden explosion caught her attention from their town. Alyanna quickly shakes Charvi awake as she grabs the shield with her other arm.

“W-what is it?” she groggily asks as she stands up grabbing her pack before yelping as Alyanna starts pushing along. “Questions later, lets go!” Alyanna hisses before hearing the baying of dogs.

“Go!” she growls before taking off right after as another explosion sounded off behind them.
